technique
Free from commitment to any one style, this body of work reflects an organic synthesis of mixed media - encaustic (beeswax + damar resin), recycled materials, solarplate intaglio, monotype, image transfer, painting, drawing and collage with found object framework.
encaustic
"Encaustic" is derived from the ancient Greek word "enkaustikos," which means "to burn in." Encaustic (wax painting) is a technique whereby beeswax is combined and melted with the crystal form of damar resin, a natural resin (or sap) from a tree in southeast Asia. The encaustic paint*, in liquid form, is then painted on a hard surface, layer upon layer. Each layer is “burnt in” or “fused” by passing a heat source over the surface to allow each layer of wax to fuse to the previous layer of wax.
