In 2004, I walked the Camino de Santiago, a 550-mile pilgrimmage starting in Saint Jean Pied de Port in southern France, over the Pyrenees mountains, across northern Spain to Cape Finisterre. Along "the way," trees are marked with yellow arrows offering guidance to pilgrims. It was on this tree, I found myself guidied by the yellow arrow as I ventured out on my own along "the way." Although I was alone, I felt a sense of peace and safety I have never felt before. "[T]he way tree" celebrates this peace and guidance, "the way" we are given if only when we ask and listen.
